Curriculum

The Biosystems Technology degree program offers two parallel degree streams to its
undergraduates at the end of their first year: Bioprocess technology and Food technology.
The BBST (Hons) in Food Technology degree program offers courses in the fields of;
Food chemistry
Food nutrition
Food microbiology
Food physics and engineering
Food processing
Food quality and safety
Food product development
Sensory evaluation
In their third year, Food technology undergraduates will undergo internships in the food industry
and related fields, followed by a research project in their final year, either in the industry or at the
university. These crucial components allow our undergraduates to gain practical experience and
apply the concepts they learn in the classroom to practical situations and research.
