Biography

Dr. H. K. S. de Zoysa currently holds the position of Docent at the Department of Bioprocess Technology, Faculty of Technology (FoT), Rajarata University of Sri Lanka (RUSL). He graduated from the RUSL in 2014 with a special degree in Applied Biology securing second class upper division pass and gold medal given for meritorious student in the BSc program. Subsequently, he completed his first master’s degrees in Biochemistry, with the support of the Postgraduate Research Scholarship from the National Science Foundation, Sri Lanka in 2019 at the RUSL. In 2020, he completed his second master’s degree in the field of Marine Biology with the support of COINOR-University of Naples Federico II (UNINA Federico II) Scholarship, Italy. In 2024, he successfully completed his PhD in Biology at UNINA Federico II with an excellent pass.

In 2016, Dr. de Zoysa became one of the founding staff members of the FoT, RUSL, actively contributing to both academic and administrative responsibilities until his departure for his second master’s degree. Beginning in 2018, during his master’s studies at UNINA Federico II (Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II – 1224) in Italy, he had the opportunity to conduct research activities in the field of Marine Biotechnology at the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn (Anton Dohrn Zoological Station (SZN), Naples – 1872) in Naples, a renowned research institute and a global center for the study of Marine Biology in Europe. His PhD research, under the supervision of Professor Anna di Cosmo, focused on Molecular Biology, specifically on In-situ Hybridization and RNA editing in the octopus. This work included a training period (04 months in 2022) at the Friday Harbor Laboratories, University of Washington, USA, where he focused on molecular biology and bioinformatics techniques for marine organisms, including phylogenomic analysis. Additionally, Dr. de Zoysa is trained in Sciences and Technologies Applied to Animals Used for Scientific Purposes, including Octopuses and other Cephalopods, accredited by the Italian Ministry of Health – General Directorate of Animal Health and Veterinary Medicines.

Since his undergraduate years, Dr. de Zoysa has actively engaged in various research activities, continuing to publish numerous research articles, chapters, and books. He also serves as an active reviewer for numerous prestigious journals. Furthermore, he possesses extensive knowledge across a multidisciplinary research background.
