Department of Bio Process Technology

The BBST (Hons) in Bioprocess Technology degree program is offered under the Technology stream. This degree is designed to satisfy the market and industrial needs of the country. With the commencement of the National Biotechnology Industry Association (NBIA) in September 2016, the University Grants Commission identified NBIA as the relevant professional body for this sector in Sri Lanka to accredit Biosystems Technology degree programs. All these courses contain a minimum of 120 credits.

Vacancy for Temporary Research Assistant

Cosmetic Chemist

(Contract/Part-time Basis)

(Product Development / Quality Control / Compliance)  

We are looking for enthusiastic candidates for the following vacancy for the University Business Linkage (UBL) Mini Grant – 2026 supported research project.

  2. About the project:

The Department of Bioprocess Technology, Faculty of Technology, is seeking to implement a UBL Mini Grant–supported project aimed at formulating and evaluating a natural collagen-boosting serum derived from plant-based bioactive, with the objective of enhancing skin rejuvenation and promoting dermal health. One Temporary Research Assistant position is available for immediate recruitment. The selected candidate will contribute to research activities related to the project, including product formulation optimization through to the commercialization stage.

3. Contract Period – 6 months

    Maine responsibilities

    We are looking for an experienced Cosmetic Chemist who is able to:

    • Create new product samples for a variety of natural skin, hair, and body concepts
    • Assist in the manufacturing of small batches to large batches of cosmetic products.
    • Experience in quality control of batches and scale-up procedures is ideal
    • Troubleshoot problems with formulas and batches
    • Improve upon existing formulas and methodology

    Requirements

    • Professional, creative, and positive attitude
    • Passionate about skincare and cosmetics
    • Excellent administrative, communication, and time management skills; highly organized and efficient
    • Age range preferably 35 – 50 years.
    • Cosmetic formulation development, hygiene practices, familiar with GMP, and other activities.

    Educational qualifications and experiences

    • Must be at least a diploma holder specializing in analytical chemistry or laboratory science.
    • Must have at least 15 years of experience in the field of advanced analytical chemistry laboratory analysis. Preference will be given to a person who has been competent in working in an ISO 9001 or ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.
    • Must have proven track records working with advanced analytical instruments such as AAS, ICP MS, and UV Visible spectrophotometer, and other sophisticated laboratory equipment, methodical use, and troubleshooting ability are prerequisites.
    • Must be familiar with quality control procedures and quality improvement, which are closely related to the ISO 9001 or ISO 17025 accreditation process.
    • Basic microbiological techniques and the ability to work in a microbiological lab are a definite advantage.

    The appointment is on a contractual and part-time basis (10–15 hours per week (40–60 hours per month)) for 6 months, and the salary is Rs. 40,000.

    Work locations: Department of Bioprocess Technology, Faculty of Technology,Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, Mihintale.
