📜Biography

Dr. Piyumi Chathurangika is a Lecturer in Mathematics in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Technology, Faculty of Technology, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. She obtained her Bachelor of Science (Special) Degree in Mathematics from the University of Peradeniya and completed her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Applied Mathematics at the University of Colombo. Her doctoral research, titled Forecasting and Controlling Dengue Transmission: A Hybrid Modeling Approach, focused on the development of mathematical models to understand and predict dengue transmission by integrating epidemiological dynamics, environmental factors, and vector biology.


Dr. Chathurangika’s research interests include applied mathematics, mathematical biology, epidemiological modelling, dynamical systems, ecology and evolution, and mathematical modelling of infectious diseases. Her research has contributed to advancing the understanding of vector-borne disease dynamics through the application of differential equations, statistical inference, and computational modelling. She has published her work in internationally recognized journals, including Scientific Reports and BMC Infectious Diseases, and has presented her research at several international conferences and academic seminars.


At Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, she teaches undergraduate courses in mathematics for technology, covering subjects such as algebra, calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, and multivariable calculus. She also serves as a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Colombo, where she teaches courses in Mathematics for Statistics, Data Visualization with Python, and Linear Programming.
Dr. Chathurangika is committed to promoting excellence in teaching and research while fostering interdisciplinary collaborations in mathematical sciences. Her current research explores mathematical approaches to understanding infectious disease transmission, climate-driven epidemiological processes, and the application of mathematical modelling to address real-world public health challenges. She continues to contribute to both academic research and higher education through teaching, supervision, and collaborative research initiatives.
