
The Association of Food Technology (AFRU), Faculty of Technology, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka,
has once again showcased its excellence in innovation by securing two prestigious awards at the
ProFood ProPack AgBiz Exhibition 2025, organized by the Sri Lanka Food Processors Association. This
internationally recognized event stands as South Asia’s largest exhibition dedicated to food,
packaging, and agribusiness.
AFRU was awarded First Runner-Up – Best Innovation Promoting Food Safety for its AquaGuard
Rapid Test Kit, a portable and efficient water quality testing solution. Designed to deliver quick and
reliable results, this innovation addresses critical food safety concerns, particularly in resource-
limited and field-based settings.
In addition, AFRU secured First Runner-Up – Best Green Innovation for its EcoSpoon, an edible spoon
developed as a sustainable alternative to single-use plastic cutlery. This eco-friendly innovation
reflects a growing commitment to reducing environmental pollution while promoting functional and
consumer-friendly design.
These achievements highlight the creativity, technical competence, and forward-thinking approach
of AFRU undergraduates in addressing contemporary challenges in food safety and sustainability.
The Faculty of Technology, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, takes great pride in these
