Field Visit to the New Habarana Grid Station (EET)

The 19/20 batch of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Technology (EET), Faculty of Technology, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, recently undertook a highly informative educational field visit to the New Habarana Grid Substation. This visit was organized to enhance students’ practical understanding of Sri Lanka’s national power transmission and distribution system.

Real-World Learning Beyond the Classroom


The visit provided valuable insights into:

  • Grid reliability and load balancing strategies
  • High-voltage grid operation and control mechanisms
  • Substation layout, equipment, and safety procedures
  • Power system protection and fault management

Students also had the opportunity to interact with Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) engineers, who shared their expertise on system maintenance, automation, and ongoing technological advancements in Sri Lanka’s energy sector.
